Sydney Gay Pride 2019 – Some fun events to help you celebrate this year’s festival

Rainbow-Crossing-1600×900

It’s that time of year again when we paint the town rainbow and get set to celebrate Sydney Gay Pride 2019. This year’s Pride is a very special one because it’s the 50thanniversary of the Stonewall riots, in which many people were hospitalised after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a prominent gay bar in Greenwich Village. The Stonewall Riots brought LGBTQI rights into the spotlight, and the message spread to other countries. June is widely considered to be international Gay Pride month. Expedia recently voted Sydney as the world’s most gay-friendly city, so make sure you check out some of these Sydney Gay Pride 2019 events.

Kweens of Comedy, Gingers Oxford Hotel, (20thJune, 134 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst)

When the winter times blues hit, head over to Gingers for some much-needed comic relief with some of Sydney’s best LGBTQI comedians. You’ll get some great stand-up but also some sketch, clowning and improv. The night wouldn’t be complete without a performance by one of Sydney’s most talented drag queens, so you can expect a great evening’s entertainment. Tickets available here: https://events.humanitix.com.au/kweens-of-comedy-pride-month

Homage to Hollywood, Hollywood Hotel, (Multiple dates in June,2 Foster Street, Surry Hills)

This show is a tribute Doris Goddard, a pioneer in the world of Sydney nightlife. Doris was an actress and cabaret performer, who later became one of the oldest female publicans in Sydney, while writing and performing her own music. The Hollywood Hotel is putting on a special performance as an ode to Doris for her ground-breaking contribution to Sydney nightlife. The show will feature resident showgirls Suzie St James & Connie Cartier hosting a variety of Cabaret, Comedy, impersonators, and resident DJ Miss Victoria Anthony, and the finale will be performed by Carlotta. Don’t forget to don plenty of bling. You can buy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/homage-to-hollywood-tickets-60392336103

Beresford Sundays, The Beresford Hotel, (Every Sunday during Pride, 354 Bourke Street, Surry Hills)

The Beresford Hotel in Surry Hills is a long-standing institution in Sydney. And every Sunday night during Gay Pride month, the Beresford re-lives its former glory as one of Sydney’s premier gay venues. Not surprisingly, some of Sydney’s best DJ’s (James Alexander, Victoria Anthony, Tina Turntables, Dom De Sousa and Colin Gaff) are regular features, and the party continues well into Sunday Night.  There’s also a fantastic modern Italian Trattoria, so you can fill up first, and then head upstairs for the fun. You might hit the snooze button more than once on Monday, but it’ll be worth it.

The Colombian Hotel, Sydney Gay Pride 2019 Rainbow Party (Oxford Street, 21stand 22ndJune)

The Colombian Hotel has been faithfully serving Sydney’s queer community for decades with its decadent longue-inspired upstairs bar, and on the weekend of the 21stand 22ndof June, they’re putting on one of the biggest parties of the year. This year’s Sydney Gay Pride 2019 Rainbow Party will feature DJ’s, caged boys and a pole dancer, and will run the entire weekend. Probably best not to leave it till Sunday night to attend though, as we can’t guarantee everyone will be at their freshest. But it promises to a LOT of fun.
